This graffito used to be part of a much larger mural which covered the entire facade of the building. It was painted in the mid-seventies by members of a left-wing grassroots movement, "Movimento del '77", as part of a campaign, involving local inhabitants, against the squalor of the buildings in the area. The campaign seems to have been only partially successful, though, seeing that to this day, some of the adjacent buildings are in such bad shape that they have been abandoned and the windows and doors cemented shut. The building of the donkey (as well as others) fared better, but the rest of the mural was painted over during restoration.
By the way, nowadays real estate prices in this formerly poor neighbourhood have skyrocketed. It has become one of the most expensive areas of Rome... and you know Rome is no cheap city !
That is fabulous! It makes me laugh very much. It's amazing the things you can find on back streets. I loved Italia when I visited there. It is an amazing place to explore.
Thanx ! I agree with you on back streets, but this particular photo was taken on a rather busy street - Lungotevere is the road that runs north and south alongside both banks of the Tiber. Still, as you can see, the place retains a cozy atmosphere.

Certo poi ristrutturi e ri-dipingi sopra
Cmq bella foto, mi piace il contrasto che hai colto Da un lato un romanaccio in canottiera più che reale, e dall'altro un ciuchino fantastico, dai colori tenui e l'espressione allegra.
A collection of the most beautiful and amazing square photographs I found among my favourites. Please have a look and give these artists the attention they deserve!
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More
